Adola Debre Salem Medhanialem Church

A place of healing.

In Adola, Oromia, our church is building a hospital where faith and medicine work hand in hand: open to everyone, and close to home for families who have waited too long for good care.

Our mission

Healing has always been part of our calling.

Since 1936 E.C., Adola Debre Salem Medhanialem Ethiopian Orthodox Church has been a spiritual and social cornerstone for our community, nurturing souls and meeting the needs of the people around us. Building a hospital is the next step in that service.

“I was sick, and you looked after me.”
Matthew 25:36

Why our region needs a hospital

  • Good care is far away

Most high-quality health services are concentrated in Addis Ababa, far from our region. For many families, reaching them is costly or simply impossible.

  • Nearby care often falls short

Patients who do reach a health facility may find it without essential medicines, equipment or trained staff.

  • Families carry a heavy burden

Our communities face high maternal and child mortality, infectious diseases and rising chronic illness.

Our answer

A hospital that brings both access and excellence close to home.

Care that is affordable or free for those who need it most, professional standards equal to any in the country, and compassion for the whole person.

The hospital

Four stories of hope, rising in Adola.

A primary care hospital with outpatient and emergency care, a laboratory, a pharmacy and inpatient wards. The structure is standing. Finishing work, utilities and equipment come next.

What we believe

The values that shape every room.

The hospital grows from the same faith that built our church and our elder care center. These are the commitments behind it.

Faith and medicine, hand in hand

In our society, faith is part of everyday life, and part of healing. Here, modern medicine and spiritual care will work side by side, so every patient is cared for in a place that honors what they believe.

Rooted in the Ethiopian Orthodox tradition. Open to people of every faith.

Whole-person care

Each patient is treated as a whole human being, with attention to physical, emotional and spiritual needs.

Open to all

Care for everyone, regardless of religion, race, gender or background, as our elder care center has done from its first day.

Within reach of the poor

Affordable or free care for those who cannot pay. A place where the poor are not turned away.

Excellence with compassion

Professional standards equal to any in the country, delivered with dignity and love.

Our work today

Our healing ministry has already begun.

Four years ago, the church opened an elderly care center for people who had no one else to care for them. Today it provides food, shelter, clothing, spiritual support and daily care for 50 elders, regardless of religion, race or gender.

It has become a lifeline, and it shows what this community can do together. The hospital grows from the same calling: direct care for the center’s residents is part of its very first phase.
